I Just Moved Up to the Mountains

A couple of weeks ago I got a call from a guy I knew a few years ago when I was living down in the Sand Hills of North Carolina. He was up in the mountains and he had become the principle of a high school in Ashe county. He wanted to know if I was interested in becoming the wrestling coach up there. In fact he told me that they had a couple of guys who might make the state tournament. At any rate now I am looking for apartments in Asheville NC and getting started on my work up there. Obviously I am going to be doing a lot more than coaching. The wrestling team competes and practices after the school day is over. During the day I am going to be teaching math and computer classes. They need a calculus teacher here and that is what I am doing, although I had to brush up on the subject before I started. It has been four or five years since I taught calculus.

It is a really big difference living up here. Of course it is still spring up here and you can feel it in the air. When it is dark at night, you need a coat. When you wake up in the morning it is going to be chilly. Of course the good thing comes when it is summer. You will not get the sort of unbearable heat in the summer that you will get down on lower altitudes. It just is not going to be that big of deal when it comes to the summer heat. Of course you have a lot of places where you can go trout fishing. There are a lot of brown trout up here and in fact you can get your ponds stocked with them.
